My best friend has recently gone for a few welding classes to justify his recent purchase of an brand new Auto Arc, 23V, single phase wire, 180 amp Hobart 500525 Mig Welder, for his birthday. He insisted that I join him to see how he’s progressing and learn a few things. Needless to say I was seriously interested to see how much of a monster the Hobart is. And he got the chance to show off his new metal inert gas welding toy.

Having spent some time with him in his classy workshop (i.e. his shed…), it’s pretty clear why he chose the Hobart 500525 Mig Welder over its competition. He tells me that it will weld 1/4″ all day long on a 30 amp breaker without breaking a sweat and that he’s welded 1/4″ in one pass with 0.030 wire on gas with no problem. Impressive stuff.
Now if you are wondering what is an Auto Arc, 230 Volt, single phase wire, 180 amps Hobart 500525 Mig Welder? It is a Metal Inert Gas or MIG welder that can weld mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum. So basically what it does is weld metal together. Very well. It uses a small argon gas tank and is really easy to use, which says a lot about the welder, because I am a relative newbie. One particular positive is that it’s pretty much “plug n play” – it comes ready to weld with or without shielding gas, no additional kit required. Here’s some of the main features of this metal inert gas monster :
After having seen what this bundle of joy can do, I am really considering buying myself a Hobart 500525 Mig Welder, because it is really easy to use, it is easy to transport because it is small, but you can also buy a custom made cart for it, it is safe to use and it can be transported in the back of the car. It also has seven different voltage settings, so you can change the voltage to where ever you feel comfortable working with it and it can be easily adjusted. The different voltage settings allow a greater degree of control and can help prevent needless splatter. Result? Cleaner, better looking welds!
If the idea of buying yourself a Handler 500525 welder is a little prohibitive (they’re not the cheapest welders on the market at about $700), it’s always a good idea to see how well received the product is at www.amazon.com for yourself. I personally always find it useful to read reviews, as people tend to be very honest and you learn a lot from them. Those guys have bought a Hobart 500525 MIG Welder and put it to the test, so they offer solid advice and comments on this Mig welder.
